A Retford burglar who broke into homes and stole money from charity boxes is beginning a lengthy spell behind bars.

Jason Ramsdale smashed his way into two homes on the same evening on August 11 last year.

The 28-year-old, of West Carr Road, first targeted a house on Ordsale Park Road in Retford, using a garden ornament to smash the patio doors.

Once inside, he stole a charity box containing coppers and emptied another charity box and glass bottles containing 5p and 10p coins.

He then struck at a house on Manvers Road in Ordsall, entering through a bedroom window and stealing eight gold rings from a jewellery box.

Ramsdale admitted two burglaries and was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court today to 29 months imprisonment.

Detective Constable Caroline Bailey said: “We are pleased with today's result and pleased that we can give the victims some reassurance that Ramsdale is behind bars.”
