Plans unveiled for new fire station in Worksop

Bassetlaw District Council yesterday approved Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service’s planning application for the new station at the Vesuvius development site off Sandy Lane.

The new building will replace the existing station on Eastgate, which was built in 1963.

It is being designed with the latest in renewable technology and will self-generate up to 50 per cent of its energy needs.

The site will include a training tower, a generator and a fuel store.

Chief fire officer John Buckley said: “I’m very pleased that the planning application has been approved.

"The new station will be built to the same high, energy-efficient standard as the other stations we have built in recent years, making it easier and cheaper to run.

"We look forward to being able to appoint a contractor and, eventually, to the firefighters moving in.”

Chair of the Fire Authority, councillor Michael Payne, said: “I am pleased to see our plans for the new station progressing.

"The building will meet the current and future needs of the service, allowing it to continue delivering excellent services to the people of Bassetlaw.”

Fire Authority Member Councillor Sybil Fielding said: “I am delighted that planning permission has been granted to build a new fire station in Worksop.

"Our town and surrounding villages are in much need of this facility. It will provide our very committed firefighters a modern environmentally friendly building to train and work in.”

Worksop is staffed by both full-time and on-call firefighters who will all move to the new station when it is expected to open in October 2022.
