Bassetlaw woman appears in court following break-in spree and charged with burglary and fraud

A Bassetlaw woman has appeared before magistrates after hundreds of pounds were stolen following a two-week burglary spree.

Officers were first made aware of an address in Serlby Park Drive, Bircotes, being broken into on July 12, and a mobile phone being stolen.

Three days later a further report was made after a handbag was stolen and hundreds of pounds from an address in Essex Drive, Bircotes.

Police were then called to Serlby Drive, Bircotes, on Wednesday July 26, after a woman entered a room without permission and stole £40.

Rebecca Simmonite, 43, of Cumberland Close, Bircotes, has now been charged with fraud by false representation and three counts of burglary.

Simmonite appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, July 27 and will next appear at Nottingham Crown Court on August 24.

Investigator Nicola Wiley said: “As soon as the first report of a burglary came in the team started a full investigation and we’ve now been able to put Simmonite before a court.

“This remains an ongoing investigation but I want to appeal to anyone who believes they may have been the victim of a burglary to come forward and report it – we take all reports made to us extremely seriously and will do everything in our power to investigate.”
